Fiction Never Lies

The first room that I chose to observe light in was the bathroom of my home. The room has two light sources, an overhead light bulb encased by a floated globe and three round lights above the bathroom mirror against the wall. The frosted glass light bulbs above the mirror make the light emanating from those bulbs have more of a yellow hue than the overhead light with the globe covering it. The further away towel rings, toilet paper holders, and towel racks are from the light sources, the more subtle the shadows behind them appear to be. The shadows appearing behind these objects are also elongated down and across the wall. Pictures hanging on the wall, to the right and down from the bathroom mirror only cast a shadow on the side farthest from the light. Until my first semester at UNCW, Spring of 2017, I would say that my experience with film was limited to what I could teach myself about the subject. My hometown of Bishopville, South Carolina is not exactly a place brimming with artistic opportunities. However, I knew from an early age that I wanted to be involved in the Film industry, so I began teaching myself what I could as a young teenager. I learned how to rip scenes from DVD's of my favorite television shows and movies, how to use Adobe software, and how to make my own creations out of them. Eventually, I acquired my own camera and began editing and compiling my own videos into short films. So, other than this class, everything that I know about hands-on filmmaking I have taught myself.  This semester, in FST 201, I hope to learn exactly what each member within a production team does, which of those positions I excel within, and what it is like working within a team of other aspiring filmmakers.  Currently, I am...
